Before You Begin: Gather Key Details

To activate your Telstra SIM card, you’ll need:

  • SIM Serial Number: Found on the back of your SIM card packet
  • Personal ID: Driver’s license, passport, etc.
  • Device: The phone, tablet, hotspot or other device using the SIM card
  • Computer/Phone: For accessing the activation website

Pro Tip: Take a photo of the SIM serial number so you have it handy during activation!

Activating Prepaid SIM Cards at

Ready to connect your prepaid service? Here’s how:

  1. On your computer/phone, visit
  2. Click “Activate my Pre-Paid Service”
  3. Enter your 13-digit SIM serial number
    • You can double check this on the back of your SIM packet
  4. Select phone number preferences:
    • Get a new number
    • Transfer number from current provider
  5. Choose device type:
    • Mobile phone
    • Tablet
    • Mobile broadband
    • Other
  6. Verify personal details
  7. Select prepaid plan
  8. Complete recharge
  9. Confirm all details
  10. Click “Activate”

You’ll receive a confirmation text/email when successfully activated! May take 4+ hours for the service to fully activate.

For phone number transfers from another provider, allow up to 48 hours.

Activating Postpaid SIM Cards at

If you signed up for a monthly Telstra postpaid plan, the activation process is simple:

  1. Insert new Telstra SIM card into your phone
