CANTOS Project Manager
Elaine Zaharris

Elaine has been with this research group for 20 years in positions of increasing responsibility as an operations manager on a number of large clinical trials, including 12 years as project coordinator for the federally-funded Women’s Antioxidant Cardiovascular Study (WACS) which had over 7,000 subjects and was run entirely by our group through mailed questionnaires and telephone follow-up.

Elaine then coordinated a multi-site double-blind trial called LANCET which tested a new long-acting insulin in diabetics who were recruited at US clinical sites trained by Elaine and her staff.

More recently, Elaine helped with start-up of two large trials.  VITAL which is finishing enrollment of 20,000 subjects and is testing vitamin D and fish oil, and CANTOS which is testing a new anti-inflammatory drug in prevention of cardiovascular disease events.

Elaine is now the project Manager for CANTOS and as such has been intimately involved in all start-up  activities, which will include enrolling the US and Canadian sites, training of site staff, oversight of the site operations and adherence to the protocol, including site visits to sites, and coordination of all in-house procedures to assure high quality data with successful recruitment, follow-up, compliance and communications among participating investigators.
